Dr Michael Downey
Gender: Male
Primary qualifications: MB ChB MRCGP
Qualified: Aberdeen 2009
Date joined the practice: April 2022
About me
I studied medicine at Aberdeen before working in Dumfries and Galloway, Glasgow and the Borders in my junior doctor years. Having completed my general practice training in 2015 in Edinburgh, I have worked as a locum GP and a GP partner in the Lothians and Borders. Having returned to Harbours in 2022 having worked previously at the practice in 2015, I was delighted to be offered the opportunity of joining the practice on a permanent basis.
I am a compassionate, patient centered GP who believes in a blend of traditional practice whilst embracing change and forward thinking within primary care. I am especially keen on promoting exercise and healthy lifestyle within my practice, something which I believe Harbours is proactively engaged with.
Outside of work I can be found mostly with my wife and young daughter, walking my dog, running, cycling and occasionally wild swimming. I also enjoy music and gardening.
Usual days in the practice: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
