Dr Sara Van Boeckel
Gender: Female
Primary qualifications: BSc MD PhD MRCGP (University of Groningen 2014)
I was born in Bolivia and moved around the world, living in Peru, the United States and Tanzania to name a few. I completed my degree in Medicine in the Netherlands. I worked for a year in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and then moved to Edinburgh to do a PhD in Reproductive Medicine. I researched how the immune system changes during pregnancy. My thesis has a complicated title and is a couple hundred pages long… Please come and find me if you’re keen to talk about it!
Because of this, women’s health, especially the interplay between hormones and the immune system, have remained a continued interest. I did my GP training in the Harbours Medical Practice and I feel so lucky to be able to continue working here as a Locum. The Harbours has a great team and provides care for a lovely community.
Outside of work I love spending time with my young family where we enjoy crafting, reading, cooking and going on beautiful walks around East Lothian. You’ll also likely find me doing yoga whenever I can, and trying to –gently- persuade other people to join me!
Usual days in the practice: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
